I wanted to focus on Sarah Bannerman, my favorite character. Why is she my favorite? Perhaps in part, it's because I liked Ezri Dax so much, but that's not the whole story. No, it's also because I like now natural deBoer fits into this role. This should be no surprise. Nicole deBoer started her acting career as a young child, so she's not one of those ladies who is hired simply due to their looks. Mind you, she's certainly a lovely lady, and in my opinion, a terribly underrated TV beauty. Still, she seems to simply fall into this role, and portrays Sarah's inner conflicts with skill and style. |

Besides, I've always liked the appeal of simple down-home characters who try to do right by the people around them. Before she married Sheriff Bannerman, she was Sarah Bracknell, a music teacher at the school where Johnny taught science. I thought she was credible in this role—an undeniably attractive woman, but not so glamorous as to be unbelievable as a teacher and a homemaker. One could really see why a guy like Johnny would fall for her wholesome charm, her basic decency, and her compassion. |
