More of the actress who played Amy Allen/h1>

Melinda

Melinda Culea proved her dramatic chops in a variety of other TV appearances, both comedic and dramatic. I remember her appearances on Family Ties, as well as a controversial role in an episode of Star Trek: TNG. Then of course, there was her continuing role on the sitcom, Brotherly Love. She didn't look quite as lovely on those particular shows, but she still looked good. If anything, this shows that she wasn't one of those bimbo actresses who only got by on her looks.

Supposedly, NBC was disappointed that Culea didn't turn out to be a TV sex symbol. Frankly though, I'm not surprised that she never reached that level of popularity. She was a gal-next-door type of beauty, which I find much more appealing.

Honestly, if the writers had planned ahead more, and if they had considered ways in which they could work a reporter-type woman into the cast, things could have gone much better. I wonder what a Joss Whedon or a J. Michael Stracynski would have done with a character like hers.

The show went downhill after she left. Mind you, I don't think this was caused by her departure; however, I do think it's an indication of the limited imagination of its writers. They were quite creative, but due to a lack of planning, vision and foresight, their efforts just fizzled out.
